of Khlong San - Thonburi districts
in the "Khlong San – Thonburi Delights@Siam" fair
during 29 November - 5 December 2017 at Discovery Plaza, Siam Discovery

ICONSIAM in collaboration with Khlong San District Office and Thon Buri District Office will hold the "Khlong San - Thonburi Delights@Siam" fair, bringing the best selection of superb products and food in Klong San - Thonburi communities to the center of Siam area for promoting the preservation and continuation of Thai wisdom, supporting unique local products to be more widely known. Public is invited to enjoy tasting a wide range of delicious food and buying a wide variety of high-quality handicraft products from 29 November - 5 December 2016 at Discovery Plaza, Siam Discovery.

Mr. Supoj Chaiwatsirikul, Managing Director of ICONSIAM Co., Ltd., said that, “Our threefold social mission for Thailand includes conserving natural resources and the environment of the Chao Phraya River and its vicinity, contributing to the sustainable development of the communities and their unique local wisdom, and preserving the precious culture and traditions of the people living along the Chao Phraya River generation after generation. As we have become a member of Khlong San - Thonburi communities, we would like to contribute by supporting and promoting a recognition of precious local wisdom that should be preserved and passed on from generation to generation and a sense of pride to be taken in among community members. For this reason, ICONSIAM has then worked with them to select the best local products and well-known food of Khlong San - Thonburi communities to showcase in the center of Siam area at Siam Discovery for encouraging entrepreneurs and manufacturers to promote and distribute their products directly to consumers with affordable prices.”

At the "Khlong San – Thonburi Delights@Siam" fair, participants will enjoy choosing a variety of good handicrafts and delectable delicacies from Khlong San – Thonburi districts to the fullest. Highlighted handicraft products that portray the way of life, religion and culture of the people in the community reflecting through the attractive contemporary products such as Khon Mask Maker from Baan Khon Thai shop, Soi Wat Suwan’s community members who have continued to preserve the heritage of Khon which is the unique culture of Thailand. On the fair, there will be many sizes of Khon masks from small one, which is a popular souvenir among the tourists to large size to be worn in the show, available for sale; Hand Woven Cotton products from Auntie Nang’s Pha Fai shop. Guaranteed as quality product which won 5-star award, 100% natural cotton fabric is blended and dyed with natural color according to ancient methods and is woven on an ancient loom.

It does not irritate the skin yet is breathable, durable, and easy to maintain; Jewelry made of Lodolite from Jewelry and OTOP Jewelry of Klong San group, the gathering of 30 people in the community to make jewelry by using Lodolite or Quartz, which is a natural stone that has been cultivated in the rock for a long time as millions of years old. It is considered as an amulet to protect from harms and bring the happiness to its wearer; Paper Mache Piggy Bank from Paper Mache Pig House shop. Colorful handmade piggy bank is a contemporary craft made from local wisdom of Prayurawongsawas Woravihara Temple community which is inherited from the ancestors for more than 50 years.

The fair will also feature many legendary restaurants from main dishes to desserts such as Portuguese food recipes from Baan Sakul Thong, one of the 18 Portuguese-born families of five generations in the Kadeejeen community, who have continued to cultivate their culture with a rare ancient dish known as Sappayak Bun (a traditional Portuguese bun stuffed with minced pork, potatoes and chilli), Latieng (fried prawns & nut wrapped in an egg net), Chor Muang (a purple chewy treat stuffed with savory filling), Jeeb Nok Thai (bird-shaped Thai dim sum), Kao Mun Som Tum (rice cooked in coconut milk and papaya salad); Khanom Farang Kudeejeen, an ancient dessert of a small Portuguese community that settled over the Chao Phraya River on the Thonburi side for more than 200 years ago. This yellow cupcake is topped with raisins, sweet winter melon pieces, dried plums, and sprinkled with sugar; Bua Loy Kai Kem from Klong San pier,

three-color rice dumpling in sweetened coconut milk with either salted egg or egg yolk; Chinese Steamed Dumpling from Uncle Sek, the Chinese community of Kalayanamitr Temple. The boiled pork dumpling in Chaozhou style is well-known as a delicious recipe of the district; Noni or Indian Mulberry Juice in Honey from Grandfather’s Herbal Drink shop, the original recipe from Somdej Phra Buddha Jarn, president of a special Committee of the Association of Senior Monks (Nuom), the former abbot of Anongkharam temple. The grandfather Cheai Srivit had studied a traditional medicine until he was the expert on Thai herbal due to being accepted and licensed by the Ministry of Public Health. Noni or Indian Mulberry Juice in Honey is made from fresh noni juice. Noni juice has a tremendous anti-oxidative potential preventing the formation of wrinkles on the skin and restoring young and healthy skin.

There will also be several interesting activities to display every day such as a demonstration of the Khon mask making, paper mache piggy bank making, cotton fabric weaving, Chor Muang making.
